New Blog...

To ALL my friends and fellow followers....

I have started a new blog for my crochet interest.
I would love to have you follow me there also
but if it's not your cup of tea...I understand.

I will continue this blog since we do plan to
RV/Camp in the future and I will need a place
to share my fun & pics.  Although this blog
will be slow going for a while, I do hope
you stick around.  Thanks for the support!!!

Snowflake Monday

I still have to tuck the tails
and block it but my first

SNOWFLAKE

is done!!!

I'm still one week behind since there's
5 Mondays in the month of January
but I'll get caught up this week.

Once I'm ready to block I'll do a
write up on that too!

Happy Hooking!

Snowflakes!

Gosh will I ever quit adding more to my plate?

I've decided that I need something small
in between larger projects like my afghans...

So I've decided to make snowflakes that will
hopefully smother my tree for 2011.

Haven't decided if I'll do one every Monday
or just do them as I feel the desire.

This pic is the cover of a book for sale
on the net but there's lots of

"FREE"

patterns available also!

Now if I can just keep the
holiday spirit all year long!

Happy Hooking!

Seed Stitch Scarf

The scarf on the right is the Seed Stitch.

I really like the way it turned out.  NO holes!

This one will also be going to

for Arizona State!

I've also added labels (tags) to my crochet
posts so they're easier to look up.  After I
got a few things going I thought some
organization should be in order.

To find the labels look on the right side
of my blog just below Archives.

I've separated them into groups:
Special Olympics Scarf
Afghans (Gift) these are personal ones
Project Linus ~ These I give away to Charity
Flannelghan ~ this is based on style or pattern

Thanks for looking!

Special Olympics Scarf

First scarf done!

This one will go to Arizona along with
a second one.  Then 2 for Washington.

It was fun sitting around crocheting
all afternoon working on this project.

I'm really excited for the kids who
will be receiving these gifts this year.

Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year!!!

Whew where did December go?

Between the holidays and moving
(yes on Christmas Day) it's
hard to believe the new year is upon us.

I hope everyone had a safe and
wonderful Holiday Season!

I'm happy to be mostly unpacked
and back to crocheting.

On the hook for Project Linus
another ripple from

Nuts!

no not hazelnuts or pistachio nuts

NO more like Bicycle Nuts!

You see yesterday we had RAIN
all day and it was heaven!

Today we had left over FOG!

And this guy thinks it's safe
to ride in the fog on streets
that don't have a bicycle lane
all the way through?

NUTS!!!!

Homemade Laundry Detergent

Homemade Laundry Detergent!!!

20 Mule Team Borax ~ $2.67 (WalMart)
Pink Zote Soap ~ $.97 (WalMart)
Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda ~ $3.99 (Ace Hardware)

Whopping Total = $7.63

You will need a few more bars of soap since most
recipes only call for a cup each of the
borax and washing soda.  Therefore making the
boxes go a looong way!

20 Mule Team Borax, Washing Soda & Zote Soap

The hardest ingredient to find is the Arm & Hammer Washing Soda.
You can also substitute Zote with Fels Naptha, Ivory Soap (plain)
or homemade soap if you choose.

Zote divided into thirds

This soap is soft and easy to cut or grate

Melting the zote with water, then add borax & washing soda

Add water to a large bucket along with melted Zote

This was fun and easy to make.

I did both types, dry and liquid.

You can get the recipes off the internet.
There's no specific way to make
either one as each area of the country
differs because of water hardness.
Some even call for baking soda but I didn't add any at this time.

Dec. 7th 1941 ~ Pearl Harbor

These pics were taken 5 yrs. ago...

hard to believe our son is now serving in the military
and our daughter is finishing high school this year.

This was our favorite part of the trip!
I could go back just for the history and
remembering our Men and Women.

Mix it with Curly, Larry and Moe

Nellie (my blogger friend) inspired
me to post this video...

If you love Vanilla Ice,
Jim Carey &
In Living Color

then you definitely need to watch
this 2 minute clip!

Just a little history for some of you folks
who don't know who Vanilla Ice is...

He's a rapper from the 80s
when it was first hitting the scene.

The guy made MILLIONS!
from this song and album!

And NO he didn't blow it
or snort it.
Instead he put it safely in the bank
and YES now he's a

MULTI-MILLIONAIRE!!!

Word to your mother...

and a little trivia for you
Carrie Anne Inaba (Dancing with the Stars Judge)
Jennifer Lopez (J'Lo)
were both Fly Girls on In Living Color

Part 2 ~ New Rice Cooker

Green Sauce & Red Sauce

The base is refried beans & cheese

Steamed Rice from the "New Toy"

Layer of Green Sauce!

Wrap it good!

Top with Red Sauce!

And for the final taste test....

Let me first say I'm not a big mexican food gal

but I got to say...

FABULOUS!!!

New Toy Update...The Rice Cooker

Zojirushi Rice Cooker

Micom NS-VGC05 (3 cups)

So what does Micom mean?

It has its own brain!  So how cool is that?

Zojirushi NS-VGC05 Micom 3 Cup Rice Cooker

Who would have thought there's so much to learn about Rice!
Rice in the husk, bran layer, chaff, albumen, germ...

brown rice, semi-brown rice, white rice, rinse-free Rice

Types of Rice

Three Ladies Jasmine Rice

We stopped at Lee Lee's Asian Grocery Store
to pick up our #25 lbs bag of rice and I must
say, when we walked in the front door
I about died!  The smell of

FISH

about knocked me out!
Steve and Emily said my lips turned white
and they were worried about me!

But the trooper I am roughed it out
and purchased my rice for $20 then
high tailed it outathere!

Measuring Cup & Paddle
Which by the way is not a "true" cup
it's actually 5.8 oz (green) and 6.1 oz. (clear)

After you rinse the rice (in the same bowl) then
fill water to the appropriate water line.
Select the correct setting and
push the cook button.

Then it's music to my ears!

Literally!

It plays "twinkle twinkle little star"

BINGO!

You have YUMMY Rice!

The handy dandy steamer!

Sunbeam Steamer

The finished product!

Wanted to show size compared to other
appliances to give you a feel of how
little counter space it takes.

If you remember a previous post
I talked about the ice crusher, magic bullet and

MOCHA FRAPS  (<-- click me)

I make for my treat!

Ice Crusher & Magic Bullet (left) Rice Cooker (right)

So if you're wondering about purchasing a rice cooker...

YES!

I highly recommend it to everyone!!!
